The Lukins Water Difference

Lukins Brothers Water Company, Inc. provides domestic water service to over 975 customers through 58,000 feet of water mains. in the South Lake Tahoe Area. By written agreement, LBWC also provides fire protection through fire hydrants in its service area. Our service area is totally within the city limits of South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Brothers, Melvin and Glen Lukins built Lukins Brothers Water Company between 1947 and 1967 to serve seasonal and annual residents in Lukins subdivision. LBWC first network of water mains was supplied by various wells. As subdivisions were created by El Dorado County, LBWC expanded within its current district boundaries. In 1953, LBWC was granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to serve the system’s 20 customers who were serviced by two-inch and four-inch mains. After the City’s 1965 incorporation, LBWC and the City of South Lake Tahoe executed a Franchise Agreement.
